55 percent of Netflix US comprises Netflix Originals; currently streaming over 6,600 titles (2024)

Netflix is not just one of the world’s most popular streaming applications but also a powerful production house. The latest report reveals how the streaming giant’s original productions have increased worldwide.

Currently, of all the content streaming on Netflix US, more than half consists of Netflix Originals. The figure is 55%, a year-on-year increase of 5%. These are all Netflix Originals – movies and series from around the world made by Netflix in the respective regions.

Worldwide, too, over 3,500 Netflix Originals are running on the app in various countries.

How many titles are on Netflix US?

Whatsonnetflix reports that there are 6,621 movies, series, and specials on Netflix US as of July 2023. This number excludes the 60+ video games on the app. Of the 6,621 titles, the Netflix Originals titles are 3,657.

It has taken Netflix 10 years to build that library, and the streamer is celebrating it with social media posts. It recently shared a post on 10 years of its groundbreaking series Orange is the New Black.

But the number of originals, in general, may go down for this year, mainly due to the writers’ strikes and the actors’ strikes in the US that have halted productions.

As a result, Netflix is now licensing more titles than it was accustomed to, from players like Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, HBO, Warner Bros Discovery, and the like.

As compared to the US, the Netflix UK library consists of 45% Netflix Originals titles. Netflix Canada and Netflix Australia also boast over 50% Netflix Originals from its base of around 7,000 titles each.
