Autopsy: Former ‘Ink Master' Winner Died From Heroin Overdose (2024)

Scott Marshall, a former winner of the reality show "Ink Master" who was found dead in a suburban hotel in October, died of heroin intoxication, according to autopsy results.

Marshall, a 41-year-old tattoo artist with Roselle Tattoo Company, was found dead on Oct. 25 at the Holiday Inn Express, located at 1490 W. Lake St. in Roselle, Illinois.

An autopsy has revealed Marshall died from heroin and benzodiazepine intoxication, according toChiefDeputy Coroner Charlie Dastych. Benzodiazepines can be used for muscle relaxation or seizure control.

The manner of death was listed as an accident, Dastych said.

The Roselle Police Department said Friday an investigation remains ongoing.

Marshall gained national attention in 2014 after he won Season 4 of Spike TV’s hit show “Ink Master,” beating out 16 other artists from around the country and earning $100,000 and a feature in Inked magazine

Marshall’s wife, Johanna, told TMZafter his death that Marshall told her he wasn’t feeling well and decided to get a hotel room after work instead of driving home.

Johanna said police officers arrived at her home the day after his death and told her that her husband had passed away in his sleep, TMZ reported. She said authorities told her preliminary autopsy results showed he died from an unspecified heart issue.

Johanna Marshall could not immediately be reached for comment by NBC Chicago.

Shortly after his death, Roselle Tattoo Company posted aboutMarshallon its Facebook page.

"Truly a sad day. RIP Scott Marshall," the post read. "A huge loss for the tattoo community." [[337742221, C]]

The shop declined to comment further.

"Ink Master" host Dave Navarro tweeted that he was “very sad to report” Marshall had passed away.

A spokesperson for Spike TV also released a statement on Marshall’s death.

"Spike and entire Ink Master family are stunned and saddened by the news of Scott's passing. He was a great competitor and talented artist," the statement read. "Our deepest condolences go out to the Marshall family and friends."
