Explanation for ASSIGNMENT DROPPED • Assignments (2024)
Monday, Feb 27, 2012
On Zangle, the grade system, it says ASSIGNMENT DROPPED. This is a good thing. It means a student's work is in but not yet graded. It does not mean an assignment is missing; just the opposite.
THe Dropped designation will go away once the grade is entered, in a few weeks. Hope this helps.
If your grade says "Dropped", the instructor: Dropped the highest and/or lowest grade item in this category. Dropped this assignment so it does not count toward the final grade.
Let's say you have five assignments. The grades are as follows… 100, 95, 90, 50, 89. If a teacher were to “drop” the lowest homework grade, it means they will exclude it from the average of your work grade points that are averaged so that the low grade will not impact you negatively.
In Canvas, instructors have the ability to drop the lowest scores of a specific assignment group. For example, an instructor could have a total of five quizzes, and instead of having all five count towards the final grade, they can tell Canvas to drop the lowest score from that group of quizzes.
Dropped grades are omitted from the course grade calculation, and the total points possible in the category are reduced by the point value(s) of the omitted item(s).
