The girls who play the starring role in The Royal Shakespeare Company stage adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic are paid £60 a performance or £30 for being on standby. They usually appear on stage twice a week and their weekly income rises to around £250 with rehearsal fees.

In Roald Dahl's book, she's five years old; in the 1996 film, she's six and a half; and in the musical, she's back to being five.

Age guidance: 6+. This production is not suitable for children under 6 years of age, including babes in arms. Younger children and babes in arms are welcome at our relaxed performances.

We really enjoyed the show, the cast were so good, they all deserved a standing ovation. Overall a really good musical theatre show that we would recommend. The theatre has a good atmosphere and as it's small I think all the seats have a good view, it's also ideally located near all major attractions in London.

Nominated for Nothing: Matilda the Musical's grade A take on a classic Roald Dahl story deserved more love. Though the Academy completely ignored it, Netflix's musical adaptation of Dahl's 1988 classic novel Matilda was a total charmer from top to bottom.
