Where to Get the Flamebreaker Helm in TotK
Rather than embarking on a series of different side quests to get your hands on the Flamebreaker Helm in ToTK, you can simply purchase it at the Armor Shop in Goron City. It is rather expensive, though, so you may have to save up a little before you can collect the entire set.
You only need two pieces of the Flamebreaker Armor Set to comfortably explore Death Mountain's hottest caves and lava areas, but wearing all three pieces and upgrading them twice does give you the Flameproof set bonus. Note that the Flamebreaker Armor only protects from the superheated climate found around lava - it does not protect you from regular heat like that found in the Gerudo Desert.
The Armor Shop is on the Southwest side of the town square beside the Inn, and you can purchase all three pieces of the set for a total of 3,300 Rupees, or just buy them individually:
- Flamebreaker Helm - 1,400 Rupees
- Flamebreaker Armor - 700 Rupees
- Flamebreaker Boots - 1,200 Rupees
If you’re low on Rupees, you can always sellrare ore like Sapphires, Topaz, Rubies, and Diamonds that can be mined around Death Mountain and from the deposits in caves. There is also a traveling Gerudo Merchant nearby who has a Side Quest Amber Dealer and will happily by 10 Amber for 1,000 Rupees!
Flamebreaker Helm Upgrades
The Flamebreaker Helm can be upgraded, and can also be dyed at the Dye Shop in Hateno Village. After you find and unlock the Great Fairy Fountains in Hyrule, you can bring them ingredients and a donation of rupees to increase the armor value of each piece of armor. All pieces of the Flamebreaker Armor Set will require the same materials to upgrade each. See the table below for the ingredients needed and defense bonus you can gain for each piece of armor.
- Upgrading each piece to level 2 will unlock the Set Bonus: Flameproof, making it impossible for Link to take extended burning damage when hit by any fire elemental attack or effect.
