The Forsaken expansion — more specifically, its campaign — is now free inside Destiny 2. This is huge for new players, as this particular campaign contains one of the best stories told in the game. You may be wondering, though: what about those who actually paid money for this content? Isn’t that a little rude to those who parted with their money to play it? Bungie apparently agreed, though you may not love its solution: Forsaken Ciphers.
Forsaken Ciphers are a currency available not only to players who purchase the “Forsaken Pack,” which grants access to gear and to the Last Wish Raid, but also to paying Forsaken customers. Here’s where you can find them and what they do.
Your Forsaken Ciphers are waiting in the Monument to Lost Lights
In order to pick up your Forsaken Ciphers, you’ll need to visit the Monument to Lost Lights. This kiosk is located in the Tower right by the Vault terminals.
Once you’re there, open the Monument and go to the section titled “Forsaken Exotics.” You’ll then see an entry that didn’t exist there in the past: Forsaken Ciphers. Buying the Ciphers shouldn’t cost you anything, so go ahead and do that.
You have two options for using the Ciphers
Bungie at least gave you a bit of agency with how you can use the Ciphers, making them somewhat useful regardless of how seasoned a player you are.
You can use them to purchase Forsaken Exotic weapons — in that regard, they take the place of typical Exotic Ciphers. Just note that if you want to purchase a Raid weapon, you’ll still need Spoils of Conquest, which can be obtained by completing Raid encounters. There are no free rides to those guns here.
The other option is — perhaps for those who have all the Exotics already — is to use the Forsaken Ciphers to buy Ascendant Shards. To do that, hover over the Ascendant Shard icon that is now present in the Forsaken Exotics section of the Monument to Lost Lights. One Ascendant Shard will cost you one Cipher. You can use all three to purchase the Shards, split your use between Shards and weapons, or whatever tickles your fancy.
And now you’ve got the scoop on Forsaken Ciphers
That should tell you everything you need to know about what these Ciphers do and where you can find them. The Tangled Shore and the Forsaken campaign will be vaulted when The Witch Queen expansion arrives in February 2022. But I imagine these items will stick around in the Monument, so if you’re still thinking about collecting Spoils of Conquest to pick up some Raid weapons, I don’t think there’s any rush.
Introduced in Seasons of Arrivals, Exotic Ciphers are a rare currency type that allows players to purchase Exotics from previous years in Destiny 2's lifespan. They can also be used to purchase an additional Fated Engram from Xur every week and, starting in The Final Shape, add Artifice sockets to Exotic armor.
A cipher transforms data by processing the original, plaintext characters or other data into ciphertext. The ciphertext should appear as random data. Traditionally, ciphers used these two main types of transformation: Transposition ciphers keep all the original bits of data in a byte but mix their order.
Izanagi, Jotunn, le monarque. If you really like revolvers, you can take Thorn or Ace of Spades instead of Jotunn. Don't get Jotunn, you'll likely never use it in PvE. All you need is Bad Juju.
An important exception comes in raid exotics: Anarchy, Tarrabah, and Always on Time. Even if you have a Forsaken Cipher, you'll still need to spend 240 Spoils of Conquest to purchase these.
Upon the release of The Witch Queen expansion in February 2022, Forsaken's campaign and the Tangled Shore destination were removed from the game as part of a developer initiative called the "Destiny Content Vault". Ahead of its removal, Forsaken's campaign was made free-to-play in December 2021.
Ciphers are an indispensable aspect of modern-day data security. By enabling secure encryption and decryption of information, they serve as the bedrock of cybersecurity, safeguarding sensitive data from unauthorized access and cyber threats.
Reverse the alphabet to create a basic cipher alphabet.
Substitution ciphers work by creating a disordered alphabet, allowing you to substitute letters for other letters. For a straightforward substitution cipher, simply use the alphabet backwards, so that “a” becomes “z,” “b” becomes “y,” “c” becomes “x,” and so on.
Cipher suites are sets of instructions that enable secure network connections through Transport Layer Security (TLS), often still referred to as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). Behind the scenes, these cipher suites provide a set of algorithms and protocols required to secure communications between clients and servers.
They can be used to purchase any Forsaken Exotic weapon in the Archive. If all Exotic weapons have been purchased, the Ciphers can be turned in for an Ascendant Shard.
You can have a maximum of one cipher in your inventory although it may allow to claim more. Extra ciphers will dissapear. You'll be able to stack them up to 5 or so and use them to focus exotic armor next season, but the stack limit changes leaked early and are not working correctly.
In cryptography a 'key' is a piece of information used in combination with an algorithm (a 'cipher') to transform plaintext into ciphertext (encryption) and vice versa (decryption).
The decryption procedure in Hill Cipher begins with the Ciphertext as input, as shown in the diagram above. With certain rules, this Ciphertext will be translated into a matrix form (C). The inverse of the key matrix used during encryption will be multiplied by the matrix (C) to obtain a matrix (P).
The Caesar cipher is based on transposition and involves shifting each letter of the plaintext message by a certain number of letters, historically three, as shown in Figure 5.1. The ciphertext can be decrypted by applying the same number of shifts in the opposite direction.
