The Ishvalan culture appears to be based on an amalgamation of various different cultures including Middle Eastern and Indian cultures. Ed and Al were connected via alchemy and the truth, and Ed's body had to sustain not just itself, but Al's body as well, which put a strain on Ed's body. This resulted in Ed's stunted growth and his constant fatigue, with Alphonse noticing that Ed spent a lot of time asleep.
Can I skip FMA and watch FMAB? ›While the story does borrow some of the plot in the manga it recreates it in an original way. After a while the story doesn't relate to the manga at all. But yes you can in fact skip FMA and watch FMAB instead.
