Jose Ortiz, Jr. was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the New York City Employment and Training Coalition in February 2018. An accomplished New York City nonprofit leader, Jose has spent his career building and overseeing programs and initiatives at premier social sector organizations across education, leadership, innovation and workforce development.

Immediately prior to joining NYCETC, Jose served as the Managing Director of External Affairs, Partnerships, and Business Development atPursuit(formerly Coalition for Queens or C4Q), a Long Island City based workforce nonprofit that prepares underserved and underprivileged individuals without college degrees for software development jobs at some of the world’s most innovative companies. In this capacity, Jose led the development of partnerships with government, nonprofit and employer partners, along with fundraising and resource development. Prior to Pursuit, Jose spent more than a decade leading youth & family programs, leadership initiatives, and conferences at the92nd Street Y(92Y), a world-class cultural and community center. While at 92Y, Jose was a founding member of the Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact which co-produced the annual Social Good Summit and 7 Days of Genius, and created the global day of philanthropy called Giving Tuesday.

Jose has testified before theUnited StatesCongress’Joint Economic Committee (JEC)on the subject of “Connecting More People to Work”. Jose has been covered by The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, City & State, the Gotham Gazette, and MSNBC’s Morning Joe, and has appeared on NY1’s “Inside City Hall” with Errol Louis and WBAI’s “Max & Murphy”. Jose was named toCity & State’s 2019 Nonprofit Power 100. Jose serves as an advisor to92Y’s Center for Arts Learning and Leadership, and currently sits onThe Fund for Public HousingAdvisory Council,Human Services Council of New YorkPriority Strategy Council, TheNYC Workforce Field Building HubAdvisory Board, the Western Queen Tech Council, and theRegional Plan AssociationNew York Committee. Jose also served on theAmazon HQ2 Community Advisory Council(CAC), and was recently appointed to NYC Mayor de Blasio’sLabor and Workforce Sector Advisory Councilto inform the administration’s efforts to restart the economy and city life.
