Kate is very happy that Max believes and supports her idea of telling the police about what Nathan did to her. During a very important conversation with Kate later on in Episode 2 of Life is Strange, this choice will make convincing Kate to do something significantly easier.

Going to the Police SpoilersTelling Kate to go to the police results in her sending a grateful text message to Max, but more importantly, the decision means it will be easier to save Kate from killing herself later on in the episode.
If Kate survives, Max can visit her in the hospital and get slightly more information about what happened to her the night of The Vortex Club party. She will also provide Max with Nathan's room number when Max is trying to find evidence against him.

Kate gets very upset at Max for not supporting her decision, and she expresses even more disappointment in Max if players chose to take a photo instead of intervening in Life is Strange. It will be significantly harder to convince Kate of something important later in the story.
Look For Proof SpoilersThis big Life is Strange decision has a big consequence attached to it, as saving Kate's life when she is attempting to commit suicide at the end of the episode is much harder. There are five/six dialogue choices players must make nearly perfectly to convince Kate not to jump. Telling her to look for proof adds three wrong options during the third dialogue choice. If two wrong dialogue choices are made during the whole conversation, Kate will jump off the roof.

This is an important choice to make in Life is Strange if players wish to convince Kate of something easier later in the story. Although she can be convinced without choosing to go to the police, it is hard to do so without knowing the correct decisions in advance. It's recommended to back up Kate's decision to go to the police, as the choice to look for proof doesn't actually have any significant benefits.
