Mokena houses many restaurants, shops, and other local businesses. The community comes together for community garage sales, fundraisers, and supporting other local businesses at upcoming events. I have just recently moved to Mokena and I have found a supportive and loving community. Upon moving into my new house, neighbors brought baked goods and generous offers to help my family and me settle into our new home. I am now proud to call Mokena, home.

High taxes, never see your tax dollars put back into the community and our "downtown" looks like a 3rd world country. Just offices for the village official's own businesses, no small businesses, no shops, no restaurants, nothing to do , downtown area doesn't exist. Boring! You have to drive to other nearby towns to do anything. Never see any police patrolling the streets. Mayor, trustees and village administration have been involved within the local government since the 80's and nothing has changed. No support from residents but these people still get elected? They all talk and false promises. Mayor doesn't like to be transparent with Mokena residents. Police department has some major issues and no real leadership which is scary. I would only do private school here, just my opinion. The town doesn't match the million dollar neighbors that are here. We had problems with kids trying to break into cars, but police did nothing. Empty storefronts everywhere.

I have lived here since 1998 and nothing has changed. The local government is not transparent and we never know what is going on and how are taxes are being spent. Our village can't even keep up with Facebook page! Downtown area is non-existent, just business offices. All old buildings and no tax revenue coming in. Nothing to do. Million dollars homes (high taxes) and no existing downtown area. Residents seem to accept it. The local government is a joke and we have no idea what they are doing. Police department is very concerning, no leadership at all, and they just do "what they are told" by village. I never see a police car around our neighborhood. The local government officials have all been working at the village since 1980's just playing "musical chairs". No where to eat, no downtown area to walk to and enjoy, no small businesses to shop at. Empty, old buildings and "leadership" doesn't care. They talked about renovating downtown years ago but nothing happened, typical.
