Can you get a double McPlant? ›

The Double McPlant is vegan certified and cooked separately from other McDonald's burgers and sandwiches, using dedicated utensils. Whether you're a veggie, vegan, flexitarian or meat-eater, the Double McPlant is for all to enjoy.

At its height, the chain's vegan-friendly burger—dubbed the McPlant—was served in 600 restaurants from February to August of 2022 as a test for future markets. Due to slow sales, the burger was not greenlit for a nationwide expansion plan, forcing plant-based patrons to get scrappy when it came to ordering.

In January 2023, McDonald's launched the Double McPlant with two patties in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The Double McPlant features two Beyond Meat patties. It had that recognisible McDonald's taste, while the two patties were juicy, had a meat-like texture, and definitely tasted just like a meaty McDonald's burger.

With the fresh lettuce and tomato, it might be a little closer to a Big Mac apart from having one patty rather than the signature burger's two. If I had eaten the McPlant solo without a meat comparison, I don't think I would have known the difference.

The McPlant contains 20 grams of total fat, of which 6.6 grams is saturated fat, the unhealthy kind, and 19 grams of protein, which is mainly pea and rice protein. Eaten once in a while as a convenient treat for people who otherwise would be eating meat, the McPlant is a good "transition" food.

Following a trial run that went much more successfully than in the US, the regular McPlant became permanent in the UK in January 2022 while the Double McPlant will join the roster one year later.
