One Piece finale draws near and Oda delivers one last chilling message (2024)

There is exactly one week left for the return of One Piece. The manga went to the longest hiatus in its history last June 19 and there has not been a single chapter since then, something never seen before in its 25 years of history. A figure that will be reached precisely upon its return, since Luffy's story began on July 22, 1997. And far from being satisfied with that, its author, Eiichiro Oda, confirmed before his break that "the final saga" will begin upon his return. We have spent four weeks marveling at the idea, but the wait is coming to an end. And just before the reunion, Oda wanted to send a second message to the community:

"Back when I was a kid, there was a certain vision I had in mind," Oda writes in one image. "I wanna draw a manga where the finale is its highest peak…! I wonder if I could pull that off…!! Now then. For just a little more the ‘Wano country saga’ will be wrapping up. After a long time, the preparations are finally done. Only took 25 years. Though even if you read from here on, it’s totally okay, after all… from here on we’re getting to the ONE PIECE!! I’ll be drawing every single secret in this world I’ve been hiding up until now. It’ll be fun. Please fasten your seat belts. I look forward to it!!!”

How much of One Piece is left?

Although Oda used the term "final arc" to refer to what is to come, it is most likely a saga rather than a story arc. Sagas cover several of these and there are too many issues to be addressed to be a mere arc (Shanks, Luffy's father, the visit to Laugh Tale, the confrontations with the World Government and Blackbeard, etc). If it is, as we say, a saga, there could still be One Piece for a while. The last one, that of the Four Emperors, has lasted eight years and covers such long-lived and important plots as Zou Island, Whole Cake Island and Wano.

In any case, and while waiting for his return (here we tell you when chapter 1054 of One Piece comes out), there is no better time to look at the past, present and future of the Straw Hats and rejoice that Oda allowed us to be one more nakama, a member of the crew. These days we have looked at the past by reviewing how to see One Piece in order, the present with reports where we analyzed the new rewards or Luffy's final enemies. Once all this is done, the only thing left to do is to fulfill the author's designs and fasten your seat belts.
