Family and community are two consistent themes in the life of Jim Lewis. “I walked into Rusty’s IGA at Ninth and Iowa when I was 19 and applied for a job I needed to have while attending KU. Years later I had the opportunity to come back to Lawrence and purchase the stores,” Lewis said, remembering his start in the grocery business.
“Lawrence still has a small-town atmosphere and I know a lot of our customers personally. This is one of the things I like best about doing business in this community.”
Checkers employs approximately 120 people. Lewis said several employees have worked with him since 1992, when he owned Rusty’s IGA. “They have become like family. I feel very fortunate to have these relationships,” he said.
Now Lewis’ passion is providing his customers the very best quality, local and fresh products at the lowest possible prices and having fun doing it each and every day. Lewis is proud of the fact that Checkers is the only Local, Home Owned, Home Operated, Family Grocery Store in Lawrence.
Get ready for work. The beauty of the Air Fryer is it will turn off when the time is up and your nuggets will be waiting for you! Place a paper towel in the bottom of your food thermos and place the cooked nuggets on top. The paper towel will absorb some moisture to keep your nuggets crispy and delicious for hours!
You'll need a small thermos to keep chicken nuggets warm.
This is the secret weapon so definitely get a nice one. They last awhile so it's not something you to have to replace every year. I also make sure to get a leak proof thermos so you can pack soup in it too if you want!
Packing crispy food like chicken nuggets, fries, or quesadillas? Make sure to put a paper towel in the bottom to absorb moisture and avoid soggy nuggets!
If you want your chicken nuggets extra crispy, you can try lightly brushing them with a small amount of oil or melted butter before placing them in the oven. For a healthier alternative, consider using an air fryer instead of the oven. Air frying will give you that same satisfying crunch with less oil.
Pack the fried food in an airtight container and store it in a cooler with ice packs to keep it cool and prevent condensation. If possible, pack the fried food in a container with a wire rack to keep it from sitting in its own oil and getting soggy.
How to Store Chicken Nuggets. Store your leftover chicken nuggets in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days. Reheat in the microwave, in the oven, or in the air fryer.
