  • How do I shut down my standby while under load for maintenance?

Generac recommends shutting units downevery 24 hours of operation to check the oil level and air filter. Turn OFF the homes main utility disconnect (located in either the transfer switch or homes breaker box). Then turn OFF the generators main line circuit breaker and allow the generator to run for 3-5 minutes to cool down. Once cooled down, turn the generator OFF. If performing maintenance, remove the 7.5 amps fuse on the control panel, removed the T1 battery-charging fuse in the transfer switch and disconnect the positive and negative battery cables to prevent accidental start-up. After the generator has cooled down for 10-15 minutes, check the oil level and check the air filter. Once complete, the customer can restart the generator. Switch the control panel from OFF back to AUTO and allow the generator to start and warm-up for 3-5 minutes. Set the generators main line circuit breaker (MLCB) to ON. The system will now be operating in Automatic Mode. The main utility disconnect in the transfer switch or home’s breaker box can be turned back on.
