Solf J. Kimblee (2024)

Solf J. Kimblee is a minor antagonist in the 2003 version of Fullmetal Alchemist. Unlike the original manga and Brotherhood version, whose story differs radically from the original anime series, this version of Kimblee stands out as even more psychotic and sad*stic.

He was voiced by Yūji Ueda in the Japanese version, and Eric Vale in the English dubbed version.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • During the Ishvalan War, he indiscriminately murdered civilians and destroyed everything around him using his explosive alchemy, even killing his comrades when they attempted to stop him.
  • Murdered Scar's brother, along with several other Ishvalans who were with him.
  • Tortured Scar using his explosive alchemy, giving him his signature scar and dismembering his left arm.
  • When being prepared to be used as sacrifices for the Philosopher's Stone, kills one of the prisoners who thought his alchemic skills were a hoax and then escapes the facility.
  • While showing his powers to Bido, takes a nearby soldier to use his body's sulfur to create an explosion just to demonstrate his explosive alchemy.
  • Attempts to kidnap both Wrath and Alphonse for Greed.
  • Betrays Greed by sending an army unit into the hideout in order to get back into the military and have more freedom to kill, which results in the deaths of Greed and almost all of his gang.
  • Uses a soldier as a living bomb in an attempt to injure Martel and Alphonse, killing the soldier in the process.
  • Attempts to kill a defenseless Martel, mocking her as a reptile chimera.
  • When sent to Reole, destroys the city while killing many innocent civilians in the process.
  • During his fight with Scar, causes his other arm to explode and laughs at his pain.
  • Just before dying, makes Alphonse a bomb as revenge for being humiliated by him in their previous encounter, deriding both Alphonse and Scar and noting that he made Alphonse's explosion take longer as a means to make him reflect on how meaningless their efforts have been.
  • When called out by Scar for his callous murders, Kimblee justifies his actions by saying that all humans are merely the components used to make a bomb and that all lives are meaningless, showing no remorse for any of the lives he took, including his own men.
  • Unlike his manga and 2009 anime counterpart, who has his own set of morals and ultimately chooses to help Ed defeat Pride because of Pride throwing away his honor in that fight, this version displays no such honor code or any ideals, living purely for the sake of causing explosions and making people suffer.
  • Has no excuse or justification for any of his actions.

Trivia[]

  • Kimblee is one of the many Pure Evil characters of the 2003 anime to be much more horrid than their manga counterparts, the others being Pride and Barry the Chopper.
