The final text message that missing woman Gabby Petito sent to her mom, Nicole Schmidt, has been confirmed by her attorney, Richard Stafford.
The text message read: “No service in Yosemite.”
But Schmidt doesn’t believe the message came from her daughter, who has been missing since the end of August and remains the center of a disappearance case.
- “She doesn’t believe it was from her daughter,” said Stafford, the attorney, according to Insider. “Looking back now with all the facts ... she believes it’s not her daughter.”
- ”She’s not going to say who she believes it was from,” Stafford said.
Petito, 22, was first reported missing on Sept. 11 after she and her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, took a cross-country road trip at the beginning of July. The two spent several days in Utah, visiting Mystic Hot SpringsandBryce Canyon,CanyonlandsandArches national parks, as well as a brief stay in Moab.
- Laundrie returned home to North Port, Florida, on Sept. 1. It was 10 days later when Petito was reported missing. She had not been heard from since Aug. 30, and it is believed she was last seen at Grand Teton National Park.
Earlier this week, Schmidt said she had received text messages from her daughter on Aug. 27 and Aug. 30, according to Fox News. She said at the time that she was unsure if those texts came from her daughter or not since they did not speak by phone.
- In fact, Schmidt was in constant contact with her daughter throughout the road trip, according toCBS New York.Schmidt and her daughter had a FaceTime call in late August, which was the final call the two shared together.
