Morphing Ball

The Morphing Ball allows Samus to morph into a small sphere. While Samus is in this mode she can roll through small openings not normally accessible and later plant bombs after you find the morph ball bomb upgrade.

  • Found In: Brinstar

This is the easiest power-up to find. When you first arrive in Brinstar at the start of the game go to the left screen from the main elevator and you will find the Morphing Ball in plain sight.

Bomb

The Bomb power-up will allow Samus to lay small bombs while in Morph Ball mode (X is the default bomb button) The bombs can destroy small blocks in the enviroment and even damage enemies and can allow Samus to propel upward to reach some secret areas.

  • Found In: Crateria

Near Samus' ship in Crateria, you will need to head into the cavern to the left. You will find three Skree enemies (The green suicide bombing enemies) you should notice a small opening in the ground. Use the Morph Ball to descent below and then head through the door at the bottom into the next corridor use your missiles to blow up the purple door at the end of the corridor.

Now for this next room you will want to have your missiles ready as soon as you grab the bomb upgrade the Chozo Statue will come to life.

Charge Beam

The Charge Beam will allow Samus to hold down the fire button to charge up her shot for a stronger attack. If you hold down the charged shot while doing a somersault you will do a screw attack like attack that will damage any enemy that touch's samus.

When you reach a large pink room in Brinstar with snowflakes falling from the ceiling in the background. You will want to go to the bottom left corner of the room to find some blocks which you must bomb you will fall through a opening to find a Chozo Statue that will be holding the upgrade.

Spazer Beam

The Spazer allows Samus to fire a wide shot that has a faster rate of fire and increased damage.

  • Found In:Brinstar

Once in Brinstar, got to the room left of the underwater Maridia area (the room with two claws in the water that try to grab Samus). Go to the far left side of the room and blow up the cracked block directly above. Jump through the hole to the ledge above if you already have the Hi-Jump Boots upgrade this will be alot easier. Go through the narrow tunnel above to find a green door. Shoot the door with a Super missle to find the Spazer Upgrade.

HI-Jump Boots

These boots simply increase the height which Samus can jump.

  • Found In: Norfair

From the main elevator in Norfair you will want to descend to the bottom of the shaft to where two doors are facing each other. Head through the left door to find a E tank. Go through this room and descend down the shaft to reach another door. Go through and blow up the upper wall to reach the Hi-Jump Boots

Varia Suit

The Varia Suit enhances the Power Suit by giving Samus more protection that will cut 25% of any damage taken by enemies in half. It also allows her to travel in any extreme temperatures allowing her to explore the deepest depths of Norfair.

Once you defeat Kraid simply go through the door to the right to find the Varia Suit.

Speed Booster

The Speed Booster will allow Samus to run incredibly fast and obtain a energy charge that will allow her to dash when activated. With the Spped Booster Samus can break enemies and special bloocks with arrows on them.

  • Found In: Norfair

In the green room to the right of the main elevator, you'll need to get to the upper door. Jump down to the door in the floor and follow the path from there. Once through the upper door, blow open the roof section above to reveal a hidden shaft. Climb up and head through the right door.

Run through the longcavern. Once you reach the door on the right of the hallway The Speed booster is in the room.

Ice Beam

The Ice Beam allows Samus to freeze enemies and even use them as stepping stones.

From Norfair, go through the door on the left. In this next room you will have to use the Speed Booster to make it through all the shudders at the end of the corridor. In the next room cross the lava pits.The room beyond is a giant shaft like room you must climb it up avoiding the fire heads on the walls. On the way up you should notice a small opening in the wall where enemies will come out from this is where you need to go.

At the top you will need to use a bomb to blow up the small platform infront of the door to go to the small opening in the wall. Use the Morphing ball to fit in the hole and roll to the right to making it into the door with the Ice Beam.

Grappling Beam

The Grappling Beam is used to swing Samus to unreachable areas. The Beam can grab onto certain blocks with crosses on them. When Samus latches onto a block she can swing back and forther and then release the beam to go flying in that direction. Blue doors are also opened with the Grappling Beam.

When you defeat Crocomire, head into the door on the left side of the area where you fought him. keep heading left untill you enter a shaft and jump to the bottom. Go through the door at the base and you'll be in a cavern with debris. Lay a power bomb to clear the rubble in the room.

Now go to the corner of the cavern and dash to the leftmost side you will destroy some speed booster blocks and be in a new caver. As you make it to the edge of the cliff you must hold the Jump button to make a huge gap. Upon reaching the door on the top left you will find the Grappling Beam inside.

Wave Beam

The Wave Beam allows Samus' beam to penetrate walls ceilings or any enemy.

  • Found in:Norfair


First you need the Grappling Beam then you can aquire the Wave Beam. Go to the main Elevator in Norfair and head through the first door you see on the right. Keep going right untill you read a large green room. On your right you will notice two doors you want to go through the lower one.

Once you make it through you will be in a shaft with red balls that bounce and some enemies. Go through the door on the upper right hand side. You will be in a room with some floating platforms navigate through them to the right side and you will find a shutter. Shoot the blue switch to open it and then jump up to the ledge to find a missle upgrade. Keep heading right and cross the chasm to find the room with the Wave Beam.

X-Ray Scope

The X-Ray scope will let Samus scan anything in its cone of vision to reveal hidden items and areas. When using the Scope you will pause time so you will be free from harm.

Another upgrade that requires the Grappling Beam to aquire. In Brinstar there is a shaft that leads to Norfair it has orange walls it's hard to miss. You need to find a yellow door on the left wall open it with a power bomb. you will find a dark hallway with alot of spikes use the enemies that glow as light sources shoot them with the Ice beam don't destroy them all or the room will be pitch black.

After awhile you will find a area where you must use the Grappling Beam to cross the spikes. Once across in the next room you must lay a bomb to activate a pillar. Enter the tunnel above then head left and drop down to find the X-Ray Scope.

Gravity Suit

The Gravity Suit has the highest protection percentage of any suit at 50% it also allows free movement in water.

  • Found in:Wrecked Ship

Once you defeated Phantoon the power will restore in the ship. Head out to the main shaft and go all the way to the top and go through the door.

Kill all the foes in the enxt hallway and you can now go through the door on the left to be back in Crateria. Go all the way to the left and use the X-Ray Scope to see a Super Missle BLock. Blow up the block and then look to the right with the Scope to see bombable blocks. Descent into the tunnel and continue right to go back into the ship.

Use the Grappling Beam to cross the spikes and reach a Chozo Statue. Jump into his hands and go into Morphing Ball and it will take you to a door with the Gravity Suit.

Space Jump

The Space Jump allows samus to do a mid air somersault that if timed correctly she can essentially jump forever and fly up chasms or across.

  • Found in:Maridia

Located in Maridia you will find Draygon you must defeat this specimen and head to the door on his left to find the Space Jump.

Plasma Beam

The Plasma Beam is the most powerful beam weapon for Samus.

  • Found in:Maridia

After getting the Space Jump go back to the first large room in Maridia it's near the main elevator.

Once in this huge cavern you must jump to the top right corner. Go through the door and up the next shaft and you will eventually be in a underwater room go all the way to the right to find the beam sitting there.

Spring Ball

The Spring Jump allows Samus to jump while in the Morphing Ball form.

  • Found in:Maridia


After getting the Space Jump go to Maridia. Then head to the Large shaft that transports you between the upper and lower levels of Maridia. Now that you here head to the right and go through a room that is filled with sand and keep going untill you find a room with a grappling Hook block in the ceiling.

Latch onto the block and let it disapper. Now use the space jump to reach the large shaft at the top then head through the door on the right. Drop down the next shaft and wait till you pass the purple ledges then go through the next door. In the next room you will notice a special enemy, use a power bomb on the purple wall.

Wait for the robot to clear a path then go through the door .next drop into the small hole and go through the left passage below. when you reach the bottom you will find the spring upgrade.

Screw Attack

The Screw Attack, allows Samus to charge up energy when she uses her somersault and will break special blocks and most enemies.

  • Found in:Norfair (Ridley's Lair)


Once you reach Ridley's lair follow the linear path untill you find a room with a idle Chozo Statue. Surpise it will come to life after you defeat it go through the door on the right side of the room to find the Screw Attack.
