Who makes the reels for Browning/BPS? Midas=Curado??

First, some BPS reels are the same as Browning. Second, I think Browning doesn't make his own reels. Thus, who makes the reels for Browning/BPS?

Also, Browning Midas/BPS Johnny Morris looks SO MUCH like a old Curado, is it??

Mystery........ Browning doesn´t manufacture any reels, the brand belongs to BPS; most probably being owned by BPS Browning reels are manufactured by the same company that manufactures all the other BPS reels; for what I´ve heard BPS reels are manufactured by SILSTAR.

Marketing alert. Avoid the BPS baitcasters. a zillion berrings and still poor performance. The spin reels are not too bad though. Go figure. snidley

There are others besides BPS that sell Browning reels. Cabelas, for example. But as you have noted, Browning doesn't mfg reels any more than Sears mfg's tires!

Nor does St Croix for that matter, but their spinning reels, at least, are obviously Daiwa...just like the Cabelas Prodify spinning reels.

Most (but mostly likely not ALL) BPS reels, primarily baitcasters, are Pflueger. My Cabelas LP baitcasters, Prodigy and Tournament ZX, are both made by Pinnacle. Cabelas Depthmaster are Okuma, and I am sure other "branded" reels are Abu Garcia.

In any case, I would hesitate to use the word "ALL" in answer to the question "Who makes reelse for ACME Sporting Goods Retailer/Reseller"

I've got a 7 year old Browning reel that is identical to a Quantam model. I actually used a Quantam part in it.

But...these contracts can change from year to year. So while my Browning is a Quantam, today's model may not be. And next years model could potentially be something else.

Shakespeare bought Pflueger in the 1970s or 80s (I'm not a Pflueger collector), but they haven't made any tackle since moving to Columbia SC. I believe all Pflueger and Shakespeare reel are now made in China. Silstar/Pinnacle is in Taiwan, and I believe they make both BPS and Cabela's casting reels.

Pflueger, Shakespeare, and many other companies in the US used to make reels for various companies (Sears-Roebuck, Montgomery-Wards, Abercrombie & Fitch, Abbey & Imbrie, etc.) which we now call trade reels. Today's trade reels are made in Japan, Taiwan and China, and are marketed by Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops and I guess others. However, since Pflueger reels are made by someone else, does that make Pflueger reels "trade reels" today. Have they gone full circle?

Personally, I trust more a Cabela's reel than a BPS one.

Cabela's has reels made by Pflueger, Daiwa and Okuma; all brand that I trust more than Silstar/Pinnacle.
