You won't find Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater on any passenger list, don't forget, Jack only won his ticket at the last moment! They were both fictional characters. But there was a J. Dawson on the Titanic, but his life was very different to the one portrayed on the screen.
There was enough space – just
In fact, in 2016, Kate Winslet, who played Rose, admitted to late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel in an interview that there had been enough space on that door for Jack.
It's not the first time Titanic's tragic ending has been put to the test. Jack and Rose's raft was the subject of a 2012 episode of “MythBusters,” which came to the conclusion that Jack and Rose could have shared the board and made it out alive—if they secured Rose's life jacket underneath.

He joined the Titanic as a coal trimmer in the boiler room and perished in the sinking. His body was recovered (#227) and he was buried in Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Halifax, N.S. on May 8, 1912.

On today's date in 1912, the body of James McGrady, a saloon steward aboard the RMS Titanic, was interred in Halifax, N.S., where he's buried at Fairview Lawn Cemetery. Recovered in the preceding weeks, McGrady's body was the last body recovered from the tragic sinking that took place about two months prior.

Were Jack and Rose based on real people?
