Although Public Ivies have lower tuition rates than Ivy League schools, they tend to offer less financial aid. Because Ivy League schools have substantial endowments and don't have to rely on ever-changing state funding, they have the ability to offer bigger financial aid packages.
If you don't pass their SAT/ACT and GPA requirements, they'll likely reject you without much consideration. To have the best shot of getting in, you should aim for the 75th percentile, with a 1580 SAT or a 35 ACT. You should also have a 4.18 GPA or higher.
GPA Requirements
Yale University does not have a strict minimum GPA requirement for undergraduate admissions. However, admitted students typically have very high GPAs, ranging from 3.8 to 4.0, with an average GPA of 3.9.
You should also have a 4.14 GPA or higher. If your GPA is lower than this, you need to compensate with a higher SAT/ACT score. For a school as selective as Yale, you'll also need to impress them with the rest of your application. We'll cover those details next.

The answer is No. The national average for a GPA is around 3.0 and a 1.7 GPA puts you below that average. A 1.7 GPA means that you've gotten only C-s and D+s in your high school classes so far. Since this GPA is significantly below a 2.0, it will make things very difficult for you in the college application process.
A 4.0 GPA, or Grade Point Average, is equivalent to an A letter grade on a 4.0 GPA scale. This means it is equivalent to 93-95%.
The unweighted scale is most common, and the highest possible GPA on this scale is a 4.0. The unweighted scale doesn't take the difficulty of a student's classes into account. Weighted scales are also used at many high schools. Typically, they go up to a 5.0.

Party Scene
Lots of options Wednesday-Saturday. Some decent frat/house parties, weekends only. Good parties are few and far between.
Closed-toed shoes required at all times. Unaltered, appropriate athletic clothing required at all times, eg., shirts, shorts must not have parts cut out. Gaping tank-tops/muscle tanks are not permitted. Tank-top arm holes must reach the armpit.
Shirts and dresses must have fabric in the front and on the sides. Clothing must cover undergarments, waistbands and bra straps excluded. Fabric covering all private parts must not be see through. Hats and other headwear must allow the face to be visible and not interfere with the line of sight to any student or staff.
