Where are abu garcia reels made?
Today, most of Abu Garcia's reel models are made in Asia. However, the C3 and C4 4000-7000 series of their classic round baitcaster reel, the Ambassadeur, are still manufactured in the original Abu Garcia factory in the Swedish city of Svangsta.

Are Pflueger and Abu Garcia the same company?
I well recall, when I was a boy, Shakespeare, Pflueger, Daiwa, and Abu Garcia, were the big names. Each was made by its own company. I believe that Pflueger was started in Ohio? Now these are all made in China, so we lose "something" by having them made there.
These reels are made in the U.S.A., a testament to Orvis craftsmanship, artistry, and attention to detail.

Today's trade reels are made in Japan, Taiwan and China, and are marketed by Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops and I guess others.
Both Shimano and Daiwa are top-of-the-line reel brands and very similar in terms of quality, material, and practicality. Shimano edges out Daiwa if shove comes to push, but both are solid choices and better than most other reel brands out there.
I went by my local Orvis store today and found that most of the reels are now produced in China with the more premium reels produced in Korea.
Orvis builds all of its rods from the Access line on up there in Manchester from start to finish. The price point rods (Clearwater & Streamline) are made overseas to the specifications of the rod shop here in the USA.

Daiwa's has grown from small beginnings in Japan during the 1950's as a reel maker, into a global fishing tackle brand, serving anglers of all disciplines around the world. A true manufacturer, they have production points in Japan, UK and throughout the Far East.
There are a few good reels on the market that meet these criteria, but for my money, the Abu Garcia Revo STX Spinning Reel fits the bill perfectly. For its price (around $200) it's got features and performance of much pricier reels.

That country is Korea. Abu Garcia manufactures all their Revo line of reels in Korea and in looking over the Gen 3 Revo SX, it's easy to understand why.

The Revo SX is a very good workhorse reel. It is dependable and durable and has a lot of performance for the money. The reel's new magnetic and centrifugal brakes are a welcomed change and the reel's weight gain is a trade-off I'm happy to make due to the reel's improved feel and performance.
