Can you purchase oxalic acid?
You can find Oxalic Acid in small quantities in your area. If you want to buy large quantities of Oxalic Acid it is preferable to import Oxalic Acid directly from the manufacturers.
If the surface was veneer, sanding the stains out would be impossible. One of the most useful products in wood finishing that doesn't get a lot of attention is oxalic acid, often labeled wood bleach. It's useful for removing black water stains without changing the color of the wood.
Oxalic acid is widely used as an acid rinse in laundries, where it is effective in removing rust and ink stains because it converts most insoluble iron compounds into a soluble complex ion.
Bar Keepers Friend
Relax. It's not what you might think. In fact, if you look on the back of a can of one of my favorite cleaners, Bar Keepers Friend, you'll read: Contains oxalic acid. That miraculous product, Bar Keepers Friend, a 12-ounce can is highly diluted generic oxalic acid.
Bar Keepers Friend's seemingly magic powers come courtesy of its main ingredient, oxalic acid. This natural substance attacks rust, lime, tarnish and other stains on a molecular level, breaking the bonds holding them together to eliminate all trace. It works on multiple surfaces, too.
Oxalic acid has many uses, but it is widely used as a wood bleach because it removes stains without removing the natural color of the wood. It can be used on spots on furniture, like dark water marks, and it can be used to remove stains from larger areas of wood like floors and decks.
Hydrochloric acid works as a substitute for oxalic acid in a similar fashion as sulfuric acid. Hydrochloric acid removes rust and iron oxide in metals (a process often referred to as pickling) before the steel or other metal is further worked into more commercially viable forms.
Since this is an acid, it has to be neutralized before any finishing can take place. Flood the surface with clean water and baking soda to neutralize the acid two or three times and leave to dry at least overnight.
If you see the wood getting lighter than you want it to be, stop the action at that point by wiping with vinegar. When finished with either one of these bleaches, it is best to neutralize the chemical action by washing the wood down with white vinegar.

How do you make oxalic acid at home?
Oxalic acid can be prepared in a laboratory with nothing more than sugar and nitric acid, although a small amount of vanadium pentoxide will act as a catalyst and allow the reaction to proceed much more swiftly. Place the sugar in the flat-bottomed flask and add the nitric acid.
Oxalic acid is a dicarboxylic acid with a chemical formula C2H2O4. It is also known as Ethanedioic acid or Oxiric acid. This organic compound is found in many vegetables and plants.
OxiClean contains several ingredients, but the important one for boosting and brightening laundry is sodium percarbonate — basically, dry hydrogen peroxide plus washing soda (also called sodium carbonate, which is very similar to but not exactly baking soda).
I was surprised to discover that OxiClean does not contain magical, stain-removing fairy dust. What it does contain is a powdered version of hydrogen peroxide and good, old-fashioned washing soda. This combination is also known and referred to as Oxygen Bleach.
Ingredients: Borax is a naturally occurring compound made up of boron, sodium, and oxygen. OxiClean's active ingredient is sodium percarbonate, which breaks down into hydrogen peroxide when mixed with water. Uses: Borax is most commonly used as a laundry aid, although it can be an all-purpose cleaner as well.
► Exposure to Oxalic Acid can cause headache, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, convulsions, coma and even death. ► Prolonged or repeated contact can cause a skin rash, pain, redness, blisters, and slow healing ulcers.
Here are some surfaces that aren't compatible with Bar Keepers Friend: gold, silver, pewter, marble, lacquered metals, anodized aluminum, mirrored surfaces, granite, colored grout, lacquered surfaces, silver (other than sterling silver), fabric, wood, leather, polished stone, cast iron, and marble.
The primary difference between Bar Keepers Friend and Comet's ingredients is that Bar Keepers Friend is acid-based, while Comet is bleach-based. Oxalic acid is the main ingredient in Bar Keepers Friend, and Comet's main ingredient is trichloroisocyanuric acid (bleaching agent).
You likely need to rinse the area multiple times to be sure you've removed all the Oxalic Acid, so don't be shy about rinsing. When you finish, allow the bleached finish time to dry. It's very important to remove neutralize and rinse away residual Oxalic Acid.
Hydrogen peroxide is an effective chemical solution for bleaching wood. However, it may not be used for all tree species. For example, if you apply the chemical solution to oak, the tree gets a green hue, but perhydrol is excellent for bleaching birch and beech.
What happens if you mix oxalic acid and bleach?
be exposed to chlorine if they mix an acid with a solution containing sodium hypochlorite. Examples include mixing toilet bowl cleaners containing hydrochloric, phosphoric, or oxalic acid with bleach. If enough acid is added to lower the pH of the hypochlorite solution to below 4, chlorine gas will be released.
Actually, muriatic (hydrochloric) acid is quite good at removing iron oxides and hydroxides. It has a couple of drawbacks, however. Unlike oxalic, it is a volatile acid and will fume quite readily, particularly if heated. This does wonders to anything metallic in the vicinity.
To neutralize the effects of oxalic (and hydrochloric) acids, follow soaking by rinsing in running water for a minute or more; before allowing to dry, immerse in a solution of water and baking soda. This may take 24 hours or more to be effective.
A: Oxalic acid is a potent but toxic cleaner that removes rust and stains caused by iron, water and tannic acid. It's available in dry crystal form, to be dissolved in warm water for use. Be sure to read and follow the package directions. Proper application may differ depending on how you'll be using it.
Common laundry bleach or chlorine will effectively remove stain or dye color from wood, but will not affect the wood's natural color. “Two part” A/B peroxide-based bleaches refer to sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) and hydrogen peroxide.
Oxalic shouldn't cause any damage to finishes it may incidentally come in contact with such as paint or varnish. When used in dilute amounts, it may also be used to clean galvanized metal or stainless steel.

Many fruits contain some oxalates, like avocados, oranges, and grapefruit, but raspberries are considered a high-oxalate food with 48 milligrams per cup. Dates are highly nutritious dried fruits often used as a sweetener in cooking and baking.
So, heating of oxalic acid in presence of concentrated sulphuric acid produces carbon monoxide gas, carbon dioxide gas, and a water molecule.
Oxalic acid is widely used for bleaching and removing rusts and stains. When removing rusts, it converts most insoluble iron compounds into a soluble complex ion. Oxalic acid is the prime constituent of many commercial preparations used to remove scale from automobile radiators.
Oxalic acid is a colorless hygroscopic crystalline solid, with a snow-like aspect. It is soluble in water (143 g/L at 25˚C), more soluble in ethanol (240 g/L) but poorly soluble in ether (18 g/L).
It contains various forms of acids, few of which are citric acid, malic acid, ascorbic acid, oxalic acid, etc. An average size tomato constitutes around 50 mg of oxalic acid.
Simply put, it is used in OxiClean to help cleaners penetrate fabrics better. It's been linked to gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, respiratory irritation, can cause redness, irritation and scaling of the skin, as well as corneal inflammation.
Is Arm and Hammer washing soda the same as borax?
Washing soda (sodium carbonate) has a very high pH level, making it an extreme alkaline compound that is very effective as a cleaning agent. Borax (sodium tetraborate) pH levels aren't as high as washing soda, and it doesn't have the same cleaning power as washing soda.
probably at least a cup of the Oxy Clean and Biz, ½ - ¾ cup of Cascade and ⅓ cup of Dawn. if you are using a larger container, use more soap. then, mix it all up. let all the soap crystals dissolve in the warm water.
OxiClean and hydrogen peroxide do not mix well and may leave disastrous results. Both products are made for individual use and can be reactive when in contact with each other.
Mixing OxiClean and bleach is extremely dangerous. OxiClean breaks down into hydrogen peroxide, and combining hydrogen peroxide with chlorine bleach creates a chemical reaction and poisonous gases. Breathing high levels of these toxic fumes can be fatal, especially in a room with poor ventilation.
Borax and vinegar are two safe ingredients that can be combined to create a good general cleaning solution. Undiluted vinegar and borax can also be used for mildew removal. When mixing Borax with other ingredients, it is essential to use warm water to help it dissolve.
Freshen up lawn furniture. Clean gunk and grime from outdoor furniture without using harsh chemicals or busting out the power washer. Pour 1 gallon of warm water into a large sprayer.
