As a viewer, I wanted a happy ending for Takaki and Akari, so the ending scene of 5 Centimeters Per Second was really heartbreaking. For more than a decade Takaki has been “looking” for Akari, then he finds her at the railway crossing and she just passed by him. At this point, both are just memories of each other.
This movie is absolutely gorgeous, with stunning backdrops that will take your breath away. The story itself is moderately interesting, a slice of life contemplation of time and desire and feelings of loss. But it's very slow.
The title 5 Centimeters per Second comes from the speed at which cherry blossoms petals fall, petals being a metaphorical representation of humans, reminiscent of the slowness of life and how people often start together but slowly drift into their separate ways.

Your Name is a sad movie. It has a happy ending and there are funny moments, but it's sad. It's heartbreaking. It's absolutely devastating.
But, what really distinguishes this movie from Shinkai's previous work in “The Garden of Words” (2013) or “5 Centimetres per Second”, is the fact that “Your Name” is more thought-out and stronger in both its beginning and its ending.

In the final act, Takaki is shown to be longing for something that has become abstract by now. His former girlfriend realises this and breaks up with him, and he quits his job shortly after, feeling that even software development cannot distance him from his feelings.
Weathering With You is definitely more heartfelt than heartbreaking, although there are several tear-jerking moments throughout the film. The penultimate spot, however, goes to the moment when Hina is taken by the sky as a sacrifice to normalize the weather, and Hodoka wakes up to find her missing.
At the ending of 5 Centimeters per Second, the girl was obviously a vision, as the distance between them cannot be closed physically anymore and the time lost cannot be reclaimed. The act of forgetting his lost love is a slow process for Takaki (the male protagonist), which is what the title is actually alluding to.
