Why does Lord Capulet threaten to disown Juliet?
Capulet shows his stubbornness as he is shocked by his daughter's refusal to marry Paris and therefore threatens to disown her for displeasing him.
In his fury, Capulet threatens Juliet with violence and disinheritance if she continues to disobey him, "hang! Beg! Starve! Die in the streets! / For by my soul I'll ne'er acknowledge thee."
Paris is talking with Friar Lawrence about the coming wedding when Juliet arrives. After Paris leaves, she threatens suicide if Friar Lawrence cannot save her from marrying Paris.
