The following is in response to the denatured alcohol ban that took effect on Jan. 1, 2019 in the California. This letter has been sent to the California Air Resources Board. This ban, which is supposed to eliminate pollutants and the consequence Green House effect toxins, is revealed to be nonsense. The ban on denatured alcohol is a power play by Gov. Gavin Newsom and the California Air Resources Board.
Allow me to take issue with the California Clean Air Act that has banned denatured alcohol.
Boaters and campers, along with people who live in isolated domiciles, have used denatured alcohol (in enclosed spaces) for more than a century with no evidence of any harmful direct and/or indirect effects.
If denatured alcohol emits poisonous toxins, I would have been dead a long time ago.
Paint thinners that contain xylene — mek — toluene are extremely toxic. When these chemicals are used in an enclosed area, death to anything alive soon occurs. Paraffin, kerosene, charcoal, diesel and gasoline are used as fuels; all of the mentioned are toxic (to various degrees), yet these products are readily available in California.
Does this ban on denatured alcohol include buffet ethanol burners that are used to warm food inserts during a gala?
Is the ban to continue to disallow the production and sale of alcohol, as denatured alcohol is produced by the same method, distillation of yeast produced alcohol?
When charcoal is used to cook food, it emits carbon monoxide, which is conducive to what is referred as “Green House” properties. Is charcoal to be banned, too?
Environmental extremism is now the norm and is counter productive. What is needed is collective discussions — not this out of nowhere ban, which is not supported by credible evidence.
