When you roll up to your local Dairy Queen, you probably have a solid idea of what you’re planning to order. Maybe it’s an Oreo Blizzard or a classic chocolate dipped cone. Well, keep an open mind next time you go to get your ice cream fix, because DQ just launched a shake that has actual cake pieces inside it.
It’s called the Tiramisu Cake Shake, and it was spotted by Chew Boom. It’s anything but basic. The dessert has a classic shake base that’s blended with moist vanilla layer cake and coffee concentrate. It’s all topped off with more pieces of cake and cocoa powder. So, it basically has a little of everything—coffee, cake, and ice cream—all in one dessert.
That’s not the only new treat Dairy Queen has released lately. DQ also unveiled a Dipped Strawberry Cake Cupfection that features a cup filled to the brim with layers of strawberry topping, vanilla layer cake, and soft serve. It’s all topped off with chocolate cone dip and whipped topping.
This isn’t the first time Dairy Queen has released cake shakes and cupfections (they both debuted in 2019), but these new options are definite winners.
Just a heads up: Like most restaurants across the country, many DQs have moved to drive-thru, takeout, and delivery services to make sure you can get your treats and DQ food safely. However, DQ wrote on Instagram that some restaurants might need to temporarily close.
So if you’re looking to try the Tirasmisu Cake Shake, Dipped Strawberry Cake Cupfection, or anything else Dairy Queen has to offer, just give your local DQ a call first to make sure they’re still up and running.
Googling "closest DQ to me"? Same. Dairy Queen describes the shake as "chocolate topping blended with milk and creamy DQ vanilla soft serve, hand-spun with vanilla layer cake." That's not all, though. The shake is then topped with "thick pieces" of said layer cake and "choco chunks." Incredible.
All you have to do is ask for a cupcake in a cup (and, specify your ice cream flavor request if there are multiple options). At some Dairy Queen locations, these treats are made to order, while others batch-assemble them and store them in the freezer, making them less customizable.
The goals is to allow the cake to rise in temperature enough to slice and eat without melting the ice cream. Remove your cake from the freezer 10 to 20 minutes before serving. Keep a close eye on your cake. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from other warm areas in your kitchen.
