Protip: To quickly bond with your horse, drop at least 10 apples on the ground in front of it. For each apple, your bond will increase 10%. Ride your horse back to any stable and speak to the stable owner from the outside.

Taming the Horse

If a horse took a snack from you, you'll be able to mount it without a fight. Otherwise, once you sneak up and press A — or land on them from above, you'll need to mash the L button with your remaining stamina to calm it down.

As you explore the Kingdom of Hyrule, you may come across herds of wild horses. As in Breath of the Wild, all you have to do to tame a wild horse is crouch down and quickly climb on top of it. A little soothing by pressing L is enough to tame it. Of course, you will lose stamina in the process.

You can use an elixir like the Sneaky Elixir to increase your Stealth ability. Try to sneak up on the horse from behind, then press the A Button to mount it. You can even use a paraglider to try to sail up to a horse, then press the B Button to land on it.

By pressing down on the Z button, Link will crouch down and crawl walk towards the horse. Wearing armor from the Sheikah Set is the most effective for increased stealth. When you get close enough, press A to mount and immediately the horse will immediately begin to try to buck you off.

When your horse stops and turns towards you, continue moving forward. If he takes a step back, you take a step back to match his movement. Take a deep breath, exhale, and start walking forward again. Eventually he will let you walk all the way to him and put the lead rope over his neck.

Players can resurrect their horses and continue on their journey with them. In order to do this, players will need to head to Northern Akkala and look around for Malanya. For some background, Malanya is the Horse God and will help revive any registered horses that have fallen in battle in Tears of the Kingdom.

It'll take roughly two of Link's full stamina wheels to tame the beast, though you can pause the game and eat or drink a meal to replenish stamina. If you cook those Endura Carrots from the hillside, the resulting meal gives you a full extra stamina wheel.

Before taming the Giant Horse, Link will need more than two stamina wheels. These are earned by giving Blessings of Light to Goddess Statues. Alternatively, players can try to get away with one stamina wheel but stock up on Energizing Elixirs.
