- It's possible for Master Ball to fail
BenDstraw 13 years ago#1 1 in 65536 chance of it failing. 8 times less of a chance than finding a shiny pokemon. Discuss. Ben D Straw |
SSJ2_Dark 13 years ago#2 Proof? 3DS FC: 2277-6643-3911 |
prog1thefencer 13 years ago#3 Is this legitimate? That would be literally the worst thing ever. |
Simmedon 13 years ago#4 That is true if a pokemon had a catch rate of 1, but the lowest is 3, therefore nulling that chance. It involves some really complicated math that I'm not about to get into. |
kikiee241 13 years ago#5 It's possible for it to fail if you throw it at a trainer's pokemon lolololololol |
me1122 13 years ago#6 Yeah, its possible the each pokeball has a number set that is assigned to it, each pokeball(ultra great ect) has a different number set. poke has the lowest master has the highest. if the rng generates a number in said set the pokemon will be caught. the more you damage a pokemon, and status like sleep, paralyze, and freeze 'add' to the number, the master ball has every number but one(other wise the game would not compile) so there is like a .000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance that a master ball can fail. Yes sad but true; however, this also mean a normal pokeball 'can' catch a pokemon like say arceus at full health with one ball. |
HomeRowed 13 years ago#7 It might've been possible for Master Balls to fail in R/G/B/Y, but not in the current games. Apparently the old games have a different catch rate formula (which I can't find) and they have errors where success rates are 255/256 at most, giving a 99.6~% accuracy for things that should be 100%. The Master Ball had that problem, but depending on the capture formula in R/G/B/Y, it's hard to say exactly what its miss rate was. Here's a topic detailing the current catch rate formula and why it's impossible for a Master Ball to miss now: omg |
Simmedon 13 years ago#8 Thanks, Home Rowed. I remember reading that topic, but couldn't remember where. |
BenDstraw (Topic Creator)13 years ago#9 Yeah Master Ball cannot fail anymore because its catch rate was changed to 255. It used to be able to miss, but almost never. You would need a Pokemon with 999 HP left and 999 Maximum, and a Pokemon with 3 or less catch rate (no pokemon has less than 2 catch rate). Ben D Straw |
RaikouTGC 13 years ago#10 Only if you throw it at a trainer Pokémon will it fail Raikou the Thunder Tiger strikes again |
