How to Plant Oversized Crops

To grow Oversized Crops, you first need to purchase a patch to plant them in. Either the In-Ground or Mounded In-Ground Garden Patch can be used. You can find these in Build/Buy Mode under "Outdoor Activities" and both are 2x2 in size.

The patch can be placed both outside and inside, though if using it indoors you will need to remove any flooring first. Seeds are purchased directly from a Garden Patch; simply click on it and select "Purchase Oversized Crop Seeds." This will bring up a menu with all five types of seeds, ranging from §10 to §25 depending on the crop.

Now that your Sim has Oversized Crop seeds, they can plant them in a Garden Patch by clicking on it and then on "Plant Oversized Crop..." where you can then choose which seed you want them to grow. One Garden Patch holds one Oversized Crop, so you'll need multiple if you want to harvest multiple at once.

There are five types of Oversized Crop in The Sims 4: Cottage Living:

  • Aubergine
  • Lettuce
  • Mushroom
  • Pumpkin
  • Watermelon

Oversized Crop Fertilizer

If you want the Oversized Crop(s) to grow as large as possible, your Sim needs to use Fertilizer on the Garden Patch. You can buy it by clicking on the crops and then on "Purchase Oversized Crop Fertilizers, or from the Garden Shop in the Finchwick district of Henford-on-Bagley.

If your Sim owns animals, they will sometimes find a Vitality or Super Vitality Fertilizer when cleaning an Animal Shed or Coop. These are two of the best types of Fertilizers and can be costly if purchased so having animals is a bonus if you want them for free.

There are five types of Oversized Crop Fertilizer, each with its own unique perk:

  • Grow-Fast Fertilizer - makes Oversized Crops grow faster
  • Hassle Free Fertilizer - stops weed growth and bugs
  • Hyper Growth Fertilizer - increases the chance of getting huge Oversized Crops
  • Super Vitality Fertilizer - boosts Oversized Crop health and quality a lot
  • Vitality Fertilizer - boosts Oversized Crop health and quality

Growing Oversized Crops

When growing Oversized Crops, the aim is for them to be as big and as high-quality as possible. Alongside using Fertilizer, there are other things your Sim can do to help achieve this.

When clicking on a Garden Patch that's housing an Oversized Crop, you will get the option to Water, Weed, Encourage Crop Growth, and Spray for Bugs. Your Sim needs to water their Oversized Crops daily and also tend to them in other ways depending on what's going on with them that day.

If you notice a swarm of bugs flying around the crops, make your Sim Spray for Bugs to get rid of them otherwise they'll eat away at them and cause the quality to dip. Weeding is also important if there are rogue plants growing around the crops.

Alongside watering, Encouraging Crop Growth is something your Sim should do every day as well as it promotes a healthy harvest and can make them grow larger in size and also become a higher quality too.

You can check the health of a crop by hovering over it where its "Status" will be displayed. You won't be able to see what quality it will be until your Sim has harvested it.

You'll know that an Oversized Crop is ready to be harvested when you click on it and you get the option to "Harvest" it. You can also sell your Oversized Crops once they've finished growing.

Now that you know how to grow Oversized Crops in The Sims 4: Cottage Living, your Sim can enter them into Finchwick Fair contests! Check out our Finchwick Fair guide for more information.
