How do you fix alcohol damaged wood? ›
Any type of cooking oil will do, from canola and coconut oil to olive oil. We also recommend lemon oil. Softly and in a circular motion, rub the oiled cloth over the alcohol stain on your wooden desk. If required, you can add more oil during the rubbing process.
- Dust the furniture with a soft cloth or brush, then use a mixture of warm water and mild soap to gently clean the surface.
- Try a mixture of vinegar and water in a spray bottle, then wipe it off with a clean, damp cloth.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on old wood furniture.
Pour a little bit of mineral spirits on a clean, soft cotton cloth – use a very small amount. Wipe it on a small area that's hidden from view, per the steps above. Gently wipe the cloth along the grain before the mineral spirits evaporate. If all looks good, continue cleaning other stains and grime.
