Super Saiyan Rosé (2024)

Super Saiyan Rosé (超サイヤ人ロゼ, Sūpā Saiya-jin Roze) is a Super Saiyan form unique to Gokū Black.

Super Saiyan Rosé is presented differently in both the manga and the anime. In the anime, Super Saiyan Rosé is simply the standard Super Saiyan form for Goku Black, and it matches Super Saiyan Blue in strength.^[3][4] However, the manga states the form is the equivalent to Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan.

History[]

Originally, Gokū Black was unable to reach a level beyond the standard Super Saiyan transformation due to having not mastered Son Gokū's power. However, after battling against Vegeta, who was in his Super Saiyan Blue form, and being healed by his future counterpart, enough of Gokū's power had been awakened within Black's body to go beyond a Super Saiyan God and achieve Super Saiyan Blue. But when Black transformed, his hair did not turn blue and was instead pink—a sign of his divinity.^[5]

In the anime only, Black awakened Super Saiyan Rosé in much the same fashion, only it was his battle against Son Gokū after traveling back to the past in pursuit of Trunks that allowed him to master Gokū's power and ascend beyond Super Saiyan God.

Appearance[]

Similarly to Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue, the Super Saiyan Rosé transformation poses a stark change from the Super Saiyan transformation a typical Saiyan uses. It physically resembles the original Super Saiyan transformation, however, the hair is bright pink, highlighted in vivid white, with the eyebrows matching the hair. The eyes are grey, but gain a pink glare once the users aura is active, or the user is powering up.

The Super Saiyan Rosé form possesses a unique aura, resembling a flickering dark flame, highlighted with bright purple hues on the outside, and darker reddish-purple inside. Additionally, similar to the Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue forms, sparkles glow within the aura, bright purple in coloration.^[6]

Once Gokū Black, in his Super Saiyan Rosé form, merged with his futuristic counterpart, the resulting merged Zamasu retained the transformation with a few noticeable differences. Instead of bright pink hair, Zamasu now had pure white hair that mimicked Super Saiyan Gokū's hairstyle. The aura also changed into a white, sparkling outline—though he could make the original aura reappear whenever he powered up.

Attributes[]

According to Gokū Black, the transformation into Super Saiyan Rosé puts him on the same level as Son Gokū and Vegeta:^[5] a level above mere mortals.^[6] In the anime, the methods by which Black obtained the transformation aren't revealed, though it is hinted that he achieved it after battling Gokū in the past. However, in the manga, Black achieved Super Saiyan Rosé by continuously allowing himself to be brought to the brink of death and then healed (by his counterpart). This triggered the Saiyan cells within him, merging his divine soul with Gokū's body more and more each time, which finally allowed him to push beyond Super Saiyan God. Because Black was a fully divine being, his transformation was pink instead of blue.^[5]

The Super Saiyan Rosé form allowed Black to easily defeat a Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta and fend off a similarly transformed Gokū.^[6] This is because, unlike Super Saiyan Blue, its mortal counterpart,Super Saiyan Rosé does not seem to possess the stamina drain that the form is known for, particularly in the manga. Black has shown the ability to transform freely without being encumbered, and the fused Zamasu's fusion time was not shortened in the same way that Vegetto Blue was. However, this does not necessarily make Rosé superior to Blue.

Weaknesses[]

In the manga, despite the tremendous power Super Saiyan Rosé offers Black, the transformation has its short-comings. While it was shown to initially best Super Saiyan Blue, it was only able to do so due to the inherent weaknesses of Blue: that being Blue's tremendous stamina drain, which manifests shortly after a Saiyan transforms. However, when Vegeta learns to counteract Blue's weakness (by using Super Saiyan God and switching to Blue at the instant of attack), Black found himself quickly overwhelmed, even while in Rosé.^[7] This weakness carried over to the merged Zamasu, who found himself completely outclassed by Son Gokū, who had overcome Blue's shortcomings by completing the form.^[8]

Additionally, Rosé seems to require an immense degree of mental fortitude. When overcome with rage, and badly injured, Zamasu (in his merged form) lost control of Rosé's power, causing his energy to erupt from his damaged body, thereby losing the ability to compensate for the stress the form puts on his body. According to Vegeta, by allowing his power to explode without recovering stamina, Zamasu's Rosé form will damage his body even further, which puts him at risk despite being immortal.^[8]

• This transformation was originally described as Black's version of the original Super Saiyan transformation.^[9]
• The term "Rosé" in the name refers to the French pink-colored wine "Rosé" (ロゼ, Roze) due to its katakana writing, rather than English word for "rose" (ローズ, rōzu) color. However, it might also allude to the rose flower or color pink as the term can be also used for them.
• The transformation very well might have been inspired by the black rose. Among other things, the form's aura possesses the color of the symbolic figure (dark shades of red, purple, and maroon) as well as possessing its connotations for death and anarchism through its association to Gokū Black.
  • Additionally, the black rose is frequently referred to as "black beauty." Black stresses on more than one occasion the "beauty" of the Rosé form, priding it on both appearance and as well as power.^[6]
• Black states he dubbed the name to match Gokū's and Vegeta's Super Saiyan Blue naming convention.^[6]
