Where To – and Not To – Get Sculptra - Ophthalmic Cosmetic Surgery Inc. (2024)

Where To – and Not To – Get Sculptra - Ophthalmic Cosmetic Surgery Inc. (1)As we age, our face may change in several different ways. We often expect the lines and wrinkles around the eyes, the creases around the nose and mouth, and some sagging along the jawline. What may come as a surprise to some people is the way that certain parts of the face seem to waste away bit by bit. The cheeks and eyes may start to look hollow. Dark Circles may appear due to the change in contours. Several years ago, doctors treating HIV-related lipoatrophy realized that there were significant cosmetic benefits related to facial appearance. This is how Sculptra came to be.

Sculptra is not like other common injectables. This drug was not developed to immediately plump lines and creases in the same way hyaluronic acid fillers do. What Sculptra is primarily intended for is collagen stimulation. When used correctly, the cosmetic drug can reverse the signs of aging related to lipoatrophy, or superficial fat loss in areas of the face. To achieve the best results, it is important to follow usage guidelines developed by the drug manufacturer and experienced physicians who routinely inject Sculptra. Here’s what you need to know.

Where to Get Sculptra

Sculptra is best at boosting natural collagen production to sustain natural facial contours; the “framework” of the face:

  • Along the outer border of the face, from temples to chin. Injections should be inserted along the natural bony contours to achieve the best results.
  • Cheeks injections can correct the natural atrophy of fatty tissue that leads to flattening and hollowing.
  • Nasolabial folds can be treated with Sculptra, as can the folds between the mouth and chin.
  • The chin can be treated with Sculptra as long as injections are not administered around the lips or near muscle structure.

Where Not to Get Sculptra

Lumpiness is one of the frustrating side effects associated with Sculptra treatment. The risk of lumps can be decreased by not getting Sculptra in the following areas:

  • The frontalis muscle, a thin muscle on the forehead that raises the eyebrows.
  • The nose, especially “bunny lines” on the bridge of the nose.
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Around the eyes or lips, where stronger muscle contractions may occur with facial expression
