Is Mu-deok The Long Lost Daughter?
Unlike most soul shifters, Bu-Yeon's soul remains in Mu-deok's body, along with Naksu. Jinyowon leader Jin Ho-gyeong who figures out that Mu-deok is her long-lost daughter, finds Mu-deok's body at the bottom of Gyeongcheondaeho lake at the end of Part 1 and begs Master Lee to save her.
Jung played the formerly blind palace servant Mu-deok, whose body also housed the spirit of a vengeful soul-shifting warrior named Naksu.
The first season, she failed to understand that Mudeok is her daughter. No matter how many clues she had! Now: she keeps her daughter in solitary confinement.
In some ways Mu Deok's body was the perfect host for Naksu's soul because they had shared similar backgrounds. For example, both had lost their parents when they were young. Both were unwanted members of society (ex. Mu Deok was blind and Naksu was an assassin).
Mu-deok regains her powers and plans to leave, but her love for Jang Uk is too strong. After a passionate kiss, they save the day together.
Jin Bu-yeon / Mu-deok
But she washes up on the lake and an old granny from Sari Village takes her home and raises her as Mu-deok (Jung So-min). Years later Nak-su tries to shifts her soul into another woman's body, but Bu-Yeon ensures she enters Mu-deok's body.
Besides the change in plot, another major difference from the first season to the second is the female lead switch. Season one starred Jung So-min as Naksu, but because Naksu's soul was switched to her original body, her character is then played by Go Yoon-Jung.
1. Jung So-min (Mu-deok/Nak-su) will not be returning. So it is confirmed: season one's female lead, Jung So-min, will not be reprising her role. Instead, it will be South Korean rising actress and model Go Yoon-Jung who will be playing the role of Nak-su.
There's also the wily pickpocket So-i (Seo Hye-won), who came to the capital city in search of Mu-deok, her childhood friend before Nak Su's soul shifting, and who is now being groomed by the shady Jin Mu to play the part of Bu-yeon, the lost blind daughter of Jin Ho-gyeong (Park Eun-hye), as part of his attempt to ...
Alchemy of Souls was divided into two parts by the Hong Sisters. While the Alchemy of Souls Season 2 finale tied up some loose ends, fans hope for more. But an Alchemy of Souls Season 3 is off the table. One of the reasons why the K-drama gained massive success was because the Hong Sisters created it.
Are Bu Yeon and Naksu the same?
Naksu disappears to save the world in Alchemy of Souls season 2. Naksu, who is now in Jin Bu-yeon's body, decides to disappear without a word to Jang Uk. She enters the powerful magical prison in hopes of doing so, but the universe has different plans for the two of them in Alchemy of Souls.
Furthermore, previous reports stated that the first season's main female lead, Jung So-min (Mu-deok), would not be cast in the second season. The production team informed Soompi that Go Yoon Jung would replace So-min as the female lead.
First, "eyes are the gateways to our souls". Second, there are two gateways in which the soul can enter or exit: the eyes and the heart. I am theorizing that because Mu Deok does not have a soul which could've exited through the area above her heart, she would have no blue mark there.
There is also the beginnings of a love triangle between Nak-su, Jang-Wook, and Seo Yul (Minhyun). Seo Yul is also part of one of the four prestigious magical families, like Jang-Wook is, and appears to be an old friend of Nak-su's.
That night, Jang-uk shows up to see Bu-yeon, pointing out that their love has defied the odds and although they were never meant to be, they ended up falling for one another all the same. “I love you.” Bu-yeon says before collapsing into Uk's arms.
And no she's not Jin Bu Yeon. Mu Deok was the constellation mage's daughter. One night, her maid found her and hid her in the a shed and told her to stay away from her father. She witnessed her father change into a soul shifter.
So he manipulates Naksu who lives in Mu-deok's body using spells that the dead shaman had been using while she had possessed the Que's body. Jin Mu obtained her spell after she died and used it to trick Mu-deok into stabbing Jang Uk.
After the end of part 1 in August 2022, the female lead actress Jung So-min was replaced by Go Youn-jung for part 2, after she previously portrayed the original identity for Jung's character in a cameo in part 1.
To my surprise her character (at least at the outset) is actually Jin Bu Yeon's soul in Naksu's body, so what the what doesn't even begin to describe it.
She herself said she was just a cameo in Season 1. I am thinking that the change was because Somin didn't sign up for season 2. That's why they decided to just go with GYJ like the second choice. Maybe it was the reason of the awkward treatment of the AOS staff, director and actors towards Somin.
Who played Naksu in season 1?
Go Yoon-Jung: Naksu.
She was named Naksu because wherever she went, a trail of heads followed. She performs the alchemy of souls, magic that can change people's bodies and souls, which is forbidden in Daeho, and ends up being chased by Park Jin.
You guessed it! This is your place to vent your hot drama tears about the recent confirmation that Jung So-min will not be returning for Alchemy of Souls part 2, and that her character will instead by played by Go Yoon-jung.
1. Yes, you do need to watch Season 1 first. In case you're reading this and wondering whether you can just start watching with Season 2, while skipping Season 1, I'd say that that wouldn't work very well, with this show.
After months of ghoulish twists and turns, Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow came to an end, leaving fans with mixed emotions. While many got a happy ending in the adrenaline-pumping soul switching drama, a few fans demand a new season with a continuation of the second lead character, Seo Yul.
