Raccoons can be found natively throughout most of the US and Canada, as well as in parts of Latin America, from Mexico extending down to the northernmost regions of South America. Raccoon skin is obtained from killing and skinning raccoons. It was added in the full release of The Forest, and is used in some of the new items in the game.
Activity: Nocturnal in nature, raccoons are mostly active at nighttime. They are most active in spring, summer and fall, and will sleep in their dens for most of the winter. Reproduction: Reproduction begins in late winter. Females, or sows, usually give birth to 1-6 baby kits in April or May.
During the day, raccoons find shelter in all environments. In urban areas, raccoons sleep in abandoned cars, dumpsters, and sewer drains, but hide in attics, garages, and underneath decks in suburban areas. In the wilderness, they live sleep in tree hollows, under rocks, and vacant animal dens.
Since raccoons primarily travel and feed at night, it is always best to hunt them during the darkest hours of the night. It is never recommended to coon hunt during a full moon or bright moon. The darker the sky, the more active the raccoons will be throughout the evening.

Where do raccoons live?
Raccoons prefer to live in moist woodland areas. However, they can also be found in farmlands, suburban, and urban areas. Raccoons prefer to build dens in trees, but may also use woodchuck burrows, caves, mines, deserted buildings, barns, garages, rain sewers, or houses. They easily live near humans.
Male raccoons, especially tame ones, will voluntarily mate with cats. But mating between wild coons and female cats also occurs. Cats have also been known to nurse baby raccoons (see nursing video below).
