Elden Ring: Varre questline, White Mask location (2024)

It is incredibly difficult to miss Varre’s first appearance. He is the NPC that is standing next to the Site of Grace immediately after leaving the tutorial cave. He’ll give you a brief introduction to the notion of becoming the Elden Lord, rib you about being maidenless, and then will eventually disappear entirely.

Rose Church is located in Liurnia of the Lakes, to the South of Raya Lucaria Academy. Varre will be standing in front of the church and will introduce you to yet another idea – thwarting the efforts of others who wish to become Elden Lord.

This is the game’s way of tempting you into PVP combat. You need to use at least three of the Bloody Fingers that Varre gives you from the Multiplayer menu, invading other players. You don’t actually have to beat them, just get used to the idea of invading.

After three invasions Varre will give you the Lord of Blood’s Favor, which needs to be soaked in maiden blood. He’ll encourage you to sacrifice your own maiden, Melina, but we don’t want to do that. We like Melina.

Instead, let’s find a maiden that’s already dead, so we don’t have to feel guilty about things. The best place to visit is the Church of Inhibition, near the Grand Lift of Dectus. Inside the Church of Inhibition is a dead maiden that you can use the blood of to soak the Lord of Blood’s Favor.

Return to Varre at the Rose Church, and he will give you a Bloody Finger which is an unlimited consumable, and after more talking, the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, an item that allows access to Mohgwyn Palace, a place only accessible through one other route in a late-game area. Use the item from your menu as you would a consumable, and you’ll be teleported to Mohgwyn Palace.

Once the Pureblood Knight’s Medal is used, you’ll find yourself at Mohgwyn Palace in front of a set of stairs. You can enter to discover the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum, and a Site of Grace shortly after. This acts as a short dungeon, with Mohg the boss of the area. Important note: in order to complete Varre’s questline entirely, you need to leave Mohg alive for now.

Make your way inside until you find the Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint Site of Grace. Just inside the temple door here you’ll find a summon sign that asks if you want to invade White Mask Varre. Head on inside and fight him.

Rest at the Site of Grace, and then return to the summon sign to find Varre, slowly dying. He’ll give you some items before he passes, but this is not the end.

Varre has three Nameless White Mask compatriots that will hunt you down as you explore the Mohgwyn Palace Swamp. To the Southeast of Mohgwyn Palace you’ll find the Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace. From here, ride Torrent into the swamp, keeping an eye on hostile enemies you don’t want to fight.

Upon entering the swamp, keep left and you’ll be invaded as you go through a narrow passage. You’ll know it’s happening if your character dismounts from Torrent. This is the first Nameless White Mask.

The others are also in the swamp. Another near an Erdtree sprout where you might find a Golden Seed, and yet another after that deeper inside the swamp on the far side from where you entered.

Once all three Nameless White Mask invaders are defeated, you’ll earn Varre’s complete armor set, including the White Mask itself, which is particularly useful for bleed builds. Remember: these invaders are unlikely to spawn at all should you defeat Mohg.
