Bruising and swelling may last up to 48-72 hours after injections. You may experience tenderness at injection site for a few days after your treatment. For discomfort you may take Tylenol. Arnica creams can be topically applied to aid bruising, swelling and pain after treatment.

After receiving Sculptra patients should avoid straining, heavy lifting, vigorous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, exposure to extreme cold, niacin supplements, cigarettes and alcoholic beverages for 48-hours following treatment.

Potential Risks of Sculptra:

Nodule formation: Sculptra stimulates collagen production, and in some cases, small nodules or lumps may develop under the skin at the injection site. These nodules can be visible or palpable and may require further treatment, such as massage or injections with additional medication.

As soon as it's injected, the filler will start to take effect by taking up space under your skin. The product will then help to stimulate your body's production of collagen for long-lasting, highly effective results. The full results of your treatment should be visible after about six weeks.

Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen (These may thin the blood and exacerbate bruising) *Do NOT stop prescribed blood thinners without the consent of your medical provider. Avoid exercise or excessive exertion for 24 hours. Avoid excess sun exposure, steam or sauna use for 24 hours.

There is no downtime required after being treated Sculptra, and you are not required to schedule any time off of work. However, exercise is not recommended for 24-hours after injections.

In approximately four to six weeks, once the body's natural collagen production has begun to pick up speed, the volume-enhancing effects of Sculptra will become apparent. The process will plump your face, giving your facial features a “lift.”

To avoid additional swelling, sleep with head elevated for 2-3 days post treatment. Avoid washing your face for 12 hours following treatment.

The chances of this happening are very small, but if it does happen, the complications can be serious, and may be permanent. These complications, which have been reported for facial injections, can include vision abnormalities, blindness, stroke, temporary scabs, or permanent scarring of the skin.

Avoid alcohol, caffeine, high salt/sugar food, spicy food, and cigarettes for at least 24-48 hours after your procedure, as these may contribute to increased swelling, bruising, and redness. Stay hydrated and eat as cleanly as possible, focusing on nutrient-rich whole food.

Important Sculptra after care recommendations:

Avoid alcohol, vigorous exercise, sun bathing, and extremes of heat or cold for 2 days post treatment. These activities have been found to increase and prolong swelling. It is advisable to avoid aspirin and alcohol for 12-48 hours after treatment.

Dear Mary, Swelling after Sculptra usually lasts about 1 to 2 weeks. Body cannot make that much collagen as fast in 3 weeks that changes the look of your face in a noticeable way.

You can go back to work right after the procedure if you'd like. Some patients notice redness, mild swelling and tenderness at the injection sites after treatment. Minor bruising or lumps can also occur. These usually go away on their own within a week.
