Give your kid some credit !!
I picked this age rating but I have to be honest I didn’t read the whole thing. I actually picked it up off the shelf at Walmart after *ironically* taking my daughter on an emergency bathroom break. Lol, I’m an artist so the simple colorful book cover caught my eye. I actually love what I read initially. I had almost the exact issues Raina did growing up and I literally lived in fear of vomiting and as a result had anxiety-induced chronic stomach issues like cramps and constant nausea. Any time I would vomit I would end up not wanting to eat for weeks to months and would lose a lot of weight and become ill. It wasn’t until adulthood that I learned what happened to me as a kid. SO I think it’s really important to discuss all sorts of feelings and issues with your kids even if you have no clue what’s wrong with them, just to talk about this stuff brings so much comfort. Also, my daughter is 5 and we have already discussed periods and just about everything besides sex. She is extremely mature and I’ve heard of cases of 7 y/o’s getting their period. I would hate for her to feel afraid or disgusted so, appropriately, we have talked about what happens on your period, and she understood and hasn’t acted funny or blurted it out in front of people or anything silly portrayals they show on tv. Lol she simply furrowed her brow, rubbed her chin, asked some inquisitive questions and then smiled and kept it moving. 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️ Lol I’m a single mom and I’ve been talking to my daughter since she was basically born in a way where I knew she could understand and to this day people are astonished with how matter-of-fact and wise she is. Give your kids some credit!! Talk to them about farts and pooping and periods and body odor and what’s appropriate at what time and what’s not! And I’m a Christian btw so I’m not some new-age, watch p*rn with your kid, psycho parent. I just believe kids can handle more than we give them some times. Will definitely be adding this one to my library ! 🥰

Also has a negative effect on anxious children
This book brought out the underlying anxiety in my daughter. Was unaware she checked out from the school library and she knew too early now of topics like periods, ibs and nausea due to anxiety. Do not recommend. Ended up seeing the guidance counselor and days missed from school due to fear after this and the prior book in the series Smile were read.

Just bc you can read something doesn’t mean you should.
My daughter picked this up at her schoolBook fair. She was 6.5. It was right next to the fuzzy unicorn journals. The book held my daughters attention but had inappropriate content. Spoke of a girl getting her period, puberty, a dad who drank himself to drunkenness and other topics just not appropriate for my 6 year old. Will revisit when she is older.

Almost 7yo has read it 5 times
I bought this for our daughter who is having stomach aches that may be anxiety-induced. I read it and then passed it along to my wife to read for a check that she also thought it was appropriate for our daughter. However, our daughter intercepted it before my wife read it, and she loves it. She's read it 5 times in the two weeks that she's had it. She's asked about puberty, which is referenced in the book, and has been satisfied with our explanation, which was short and stuck to the very big picture.

I love this book and I think kids should read it. it has positive messages and educational values. I rate this 9+ because it talks about Raina going through puberty.Another age problem is that it has some inappropriate things like about farting, pooping, mostly bathroom talk. kids 9+ should read this. the book is about Raina going through anxiety and the troubles she has growing up. This should be for a person that is mature enough.I think this is a great book and people should read it.

My 7-year-old twins are reading it AGAIN
My twin daughters LOVE Raina Telgemeier books, and they have difficulty putting them down. Right now, they are reading Guts again, and they rarely read the same book twice. I love how the books are helping them to become better readers while learning about real life issues in a fun way.

Disgusting as it is Helpful
Even though Raina has to do bathroom stuff it is very helpful for girls going through puberty and it gives children a chance to relate to the problem Raina has and her therapist named Lauren is helpful so you should read it

The Real World Is Tough
Guts is a wonderful book it teaches kids about puberty in a fun and educational way. It is a real story that means stuff happens and Raina fought through so you can too.
