After graduation, he was working as a session musician when he played on stage with the Dave Matthews Band for the first time in June of 2005. Ross performed with them on and off for the rest of that year before joining the band as a full-time touring member in 2006. He has been with them ever since.

Carter Anthony Beauford (born November 2, 1958) is an American drummer, percussionist, and founding member of Dave Matthews Band. On May 18, the band confirmed that Tinsley was no longer a member, saying "we are shocked by these disturbing allegations", and "Boyd has been a member of the family since the band began and we want him to focus on his health and get better.

Following the allegations, a rep for the group told Rolling Stone, “Though Boyd is no longer a member of the band, we are shocked by these disturbing allegations and we were not previously aware of them.” Matthews obliquely addressed Tinsley's absence in an interview with Vulture in May 2018.

While Reynolds long declined the offer to join as an official member, he recorded and toured as a sideman with the Dave Matthews Band from its inception until late 1998, joining them as a permanent member in June 2008.
