The only thing that is as stunning as the transformation of the museum for the Met Gala—hundreds of thousands of flowers, candles, and well-appointed dinner tables—is the prep for the red carpet reveal. Every first Monday in May, stars, models, and influencers spend hours inside the tricked-out suites of some of New York’s most fabulous hotels, primping, sipping Champagne, and selecting the perfect custom dress or suit to don during the evening’s festivities.
In 2017, The Mark, just blocks from the Met, saw Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen, Selena Gomez, and Zendaya exit through the lobby on their way to the gala. And, as captured in Dan Roberts’ street style photos, The Carlyle played host to Rihanna, Gigi Hadid, and Nicki Minaj. In 2015, Cher got ready with Marc Jacobs at the Four Seasons, while downtown, Emily Ratajkowski hung out at the NoMad and Diane Kruger dressed at the Bowery Hotel.
There’s no doubt that some of these same names have returned to the aforementioned five-star establishments to put on their best “Heavenly Bodies”-inspired looks for tonight's festivities.
