If all of the upgrades have been bought and the quest does not complete itself, the Dragonborn should just go back and talk to Delvin Mallory again, asking to purchase upgrades for the new Sanctuary. He will say that there's nothing more he can do, and the quest will then complete.

Your options are: reveal the full 20,000 gold, or two different lies where you say you were paid only 10,000 or 5,000 gold. No matter what you say you'll be sent to see Delvin in Riften and leverage the letter of credit for services rendered.

The urn contains 20,000 gold.

If the Dragonborn kills Alva and let Hroggar live, he will have returned to his original state before the incident. Hroggar explains that he was seduced by Alva and only reclaimed his own mind after she died and so released him.

You cannot get shadowmere, you can not get Lucien (spectre follower), and you will never be able to enter the sanctuary in Dawnstar. Once you do kill them you turn in the quest and only get a couple thousand gold. The guy that pays you isn't very thankful for it either.

His death is scripted, so nothing can be done to save him. When proceeding forward, the dead bodies of Gabriella and Lis will be found. In the dining hall, Nazir will be seen battling several agents, along with their leader, Arcturus.

This quest is received after attacking a member of the Dark Brotherhood, accidentally or not. Pay a fine to Nazir to get back in the good graces of the family, which completes this quest.

Another option is to complete the Dark Brotherhood. Doing so will net you 20000 gold for the final mission and this will start a repetable mission called The Dark Brotherhood Forever. This mission can earn you up to 1200 gold each time you do it and only takes about 5 minutes to complete.

There is a way to remove or prevent activating this quest, for those who do not want an unfinishable quest in their quest log. This can be done by backing out of conversation with Nazir when he tells the Dragonborn to talk to Delvin to restore the sanctuary.

Secret Entrance/Exit: 5000 septims. Replaces the circular stained-glass window in the main room behind which is a secret entrance/exit that comes out behind some rocks near the main road into Dawnstar near the inn and where the Khajiit caravans camp.

To enter the sanctuary, the Dragonborn must reply correctly to The Black Door's question: "What is life's greatest illusion?" The correct answer is, "Innocence, my brother." The incorrect answers are as follows: "Um... The one where you saw a lady in half?"
