Similar to Technical Machines (TMs), Technical Records (TRs) will allow players to teach a specific move to their Pokemon. There are many of them which you can acquire in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Can Only be Used Once

The biggest difference between TMs and TRs is the amount of times they can be used. TMs have unlimited use, but TRs can only be used once to teach a move before they break.

Buy With Watts In Wild Areas

TRs can only be acquired by purchasing them from the Wild Area shops using Watts. Watts are a special currency that players are awarded by completing Raid Battles.

How to Use Technical Records (TR)

Go to Your Bag

TRs in your inventory are located in the TM tab of your bag. Scroll through and select which one to use on a Pokemon.

Next is to choose which Pokemon to teach the move to. Remember that specific moves can only be taught to specific elemental types. You'll see if they can learn it under their name.

Can Only Be Applied for Pokemon in Inventory

You won't be able to use TRs for Pokemon in your storage. Take them out and place them in your lineup to be able to teach them the move.

Choose Move Slot or Which Move to Replace

If your Pokemon still doesn't have 4 known moves, you can just add the TR move there. If they have a full move set, you'll need to select which one to replace.

Confirm and It's Done!

Complete the process and your Pokemon will have learned a new move! The TR will also break, rendering it unasable, but you can always acquire a new one from the Shops.

Open your Bag to find your collection of TRs. TRs stand out against the TMs by being black discs, rather than white. Once you've found the TR you wish to use, select it and then the option to 'Use this item. ' This will now allow you to select the Pokémon in your party, which you want to learn the new move.
